JCM 333 Advanced Broadcast News
JCM 335 Digital News
At the University of Alabama, I teach three required classes for undergraduates in our electronic news sequence. I typically also teach one elective each spring or fall. From freshmen to seniors, my goal is to teach them industry standards so they are confident when they walk into a newsroom for an internship or when they go to cover a city council meeting or schedule an interview with a private citizen. I want them to know how to cover a story objectively, accurately, and with the knowledge that a viewer should always learn something from a reporter's story. News is what's happening in our communities, nation, and world. It's also a craft that informs the public in a way that shows we are trained journalists who have researched information that matters and we vetted the information through sources for accuracy.
