Community Partnerships

Since 2011, I have formed community partnerships with over 60 organizations for myself and my classes because I saw first-hand how a community needs all partners involved in recovery following a disaster. Watching how nonprofits, corporations, and government works together before, during, and after a tragedy changed how I view electronic communication. Without social media and radio and TV stations, many people would not know or have access to services in the community. While I have volunteered or been affiliated with many of these organizations during my career, my teaching philosophy is that students need to know more about the communities they live in and who serves in them.  They also need to realize how their communication, writing, and electronic news skills are critical to how community partners operate and distribute messages.
