Chandra Clark, PhD:
Professor, Producer, Multimedia Journalist
THE WORLD GAMES
This will be the first time The World Games has been held in the U.S. since the inaugural event in 1981. It is expected to bring an economic impact of $256 million to the city. Because UA is less than an hour from Birmingham, I felt it was a great opportunity for all of our students to be connected to an international sport event recognized by the International Olympic Committee. After several meetings with the department chair and the World Games Committee in Birmingham, we decided to create a class called “Covering the World Games” for Spring 2022 to create multimedia content that would help inform the world about the venues and what the city of Birmingham was doing to prepare for athletes, fans, and the media.

I am so proud of you, your students, the University, and everyone who supported this effort. The BOC, Spruce, and I are honored to have been a small part of this project."

Jay Kasten/Chief Operating Officer:

Virtual Tours/ 360 Interactive Content
I created a digital content management system where all of our media would be in one location for all students to access, download, and incorporate as a team. It took some training to make the learning curve but it worked.

The World Games JCM Pitch Website
3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries are coming to Birmingham, Alabama in July 2022 to compete in more than 30 unique multidisciplinary sports. I wanted our students to be part of producing content for The World Games and to develop a partnership and opportunity for our students to be a part of this international event. After meeting with some of the local production team, they asked if we could give them a sample of what our students in Journalism and Creative Media at UA can do. This website put together by myself and my PhD student made such a good impression, they have asked us to be one of the main universities to have students support their production as well as behind the scenes reporters, digital managers, and content creators.
